Measure the link power

Google says in their help section that to rank better on the search results, links from other sites to your website play an important role.

They also say that links from more important websites, which means websites with better page rank, are better than links from websites with little or no page rank at all.

Knowing this, you might be tempted to filter the sites you will work on to get links to you such as the article directories
or websites like squidoo and hub pages.

How to measure the power of a link from a website?

First check the Page Rank of a website using a tool. Google toolbar is the fastest way to check it. Just install it and activate Page rank, then you will see a green bar on the top with the rank displayed.

Links from websites with better page rank are much better than from websites with no page rank at all or page rank 0.

The website iWebtool has a box to enter the website you want to check the page rank, still using Google toolbar is much faster.

Alexa rank is another thing to check. Getting links from sites that have more traffic is better than getting links from sites that have little or no traffic at all.

To check the rank of a website with Alexa you can install Alexa Firefox Add on and immediately see the rank of any website you visit.

However, unlike Google page rank, alexa rank might change from time to time and sometimes it changes a lot!

Finally check the domain popularity of a website. See how many pages Google indexed, the more the better.
