Search engine ranking

High search engine ranking is what all of us who are trying to succeed at writing on the internet are trying to accomplish. The reason being, a high search engine ranking pretty much guarantees that you article is going to get a lot of page views simply because it is one of the first four to ten articles that someone searching the web will see.

High search engine ranking says a lot to the person viewing the web page.

1. It says that you have written about a popular subject - This is exactly what you want to do. Popular subjects get a lot of attention. Personal stories can have appeal if they are about something that a lot of people are interested in or doing themselves.

2. It says that you have written your title well – I discussed this in a previous article. Writing a good title (headline) is very important. In writing your title, you want to get to the subject that you are writing about as soon as possible. You should try to achieve this in at least three to four words. Sometimes it’s not easy but you should try nonetheless.

3. It means that you have sufficiently tagged your article - Tagging your article is as important, and maybe more important, as writing a good title. If youhave tagged your article properly along with the other things mentioned here, you should see a good number of “hits” to your article. Every time someone types a word or phrase into a search, a listing of articles with that word or phrase shows up on the search page. If your article has an abundance of search phrases and words in them, the search engine will show your article. The more of them your article has, the higher your article’s search ranking will be.

4. It says that you have gotten a lot of page views – This may sound like double-talk but it’s true. If your title and popular subject got you a high search engine ranking, then by default, your high ranking will get you a lot of page views. I forget what the exact percentage is but somewhere in the neighborhood of 70% to 80% of web page clicks are done on the first four to five web sites listed on a search engine page. I may be off a little but not much.

5. It says that the search engine has confidence in and approves of what you wrote – You better believe, if a search engine gave you a high ranking, they have read over your article with a fine tooth comb. Their reputation is on the line. Page views and clicks mean money to them just like it does to you. You can bet they are not going to put their name and reputation behind content that makes them look bad or unprofessional.

6. It says that you’re a better writer than you thought you were – Having a high search engine ranking means that you have impressed a major corporation (because that’s exactly what they are) to put their name behind yours.
